One Person Show at Silvermine Guild Arts Center
March 22 - April 17, 2009
Several months ago, a teacher whom I respect gave her class permission to "copy" - a concept I had never before considered. Her premise was that as you progress, the work will become the product of your very own hands.
This gave me the opportunity to look closely at my "role model" Henry Moore, and thus became a very interesting moment for me. As I set out to "copy" the first Moore piece in the series, it became apparent that the new forms coming to life in my hands - inspired as they were by Moore - were my own work. The same was true of the next "copy" inspired by Moore. It, too, was a Suerig.
It is as though Moore is in my studio, teaching me every day. My plan is to continue with the Moore studies in 2008 and present them in a solo exhibition at Silvermine.
